6 Degrees S01E01: First Impressions

Kira: Zoe-chan, didn’t you wear that same outfit last week?
Zoe: Yes, but it’s my favorite outfit and I wanted to make a good first impression, so I’m wearing it again! Okasan did you make these scones? They look great!
Kira: Zoe-chan, you know better than ask a question like that. I ordered them from the new cafe downtown.
Zoe: But now that you’re getting married, don’t you think you should learn how to cook.

Kira: Oh no, we are not going there. If I haven’t become domesticated after all these years, marriage is certainly not going to change me. Now help me bring all this in the living room. Guy should be here any minute.
Just as they finish setting up the refreshments, the doorbell rings. Kira goes to open it.

Kira: Guy honey, it’s good to see you.
Guy: I know, it feels like forever since the last time I saw you!
Kira: Guy, this is my niece Zoe. Zoe, this is Guy.
After they exchange greetings Zoe and Guy sit and talk.

Zoe: Auntie said you are a personal trainer! You must exercise a lot! Do you want some coffee!?
Guy (A little dazed from Zoe’s rapid fire speech): Uh...Yes, yes, and absolutely no!! Do you have any idea what caffeine does to your body…(goes into speech of the ill-effects of caffeine)

Kira: (Hmm...I should have warned Guy about Zoe...And I hope he doesn’t bore her to death.)
The doorbell rings again. Kira goes to answer it.

Kira: Well hello! You must be Guy’s brother Vick! You two look so much alike.
Victor: Victor. And this is my girlfriend Ellen.
Ellen: He means “Hello”. Nice to meet you. We’ve heard so much about you!
Victor: Humf, yeah like you’re marrying my brother and...Oh yeah that’s actually all I know about you.
Ellen shoots Vick that “why did you have to go there” look.
Kira: Well, we’re all here to get to know each other. Why don’t you both have a seat?

Once everyone is settled, Kira begins serving pastries and coffee (and bottled water for Guy)

Kira: Victor, would you like a scone?
Victor (mumbles): I don’t have much of an appetite at the moment.
Kira: Well, there’s plenty if you change your mind. By the way, I love your sweater. That’s such a nice shade of pink.
Victor: It's not pink, it's fuchsia!!

Ellen (sensing Victor is getting agitated quickly changes the subject): So how did you and Guy meet anyway?
Zoe: Yeah auntie, you never told me the whole story! I wanna know!!
Victor: (Wow, this girl is way too enthusiastic)
Kira: I’ll let Guy start off with his part.

Guy: Alright, alright. Of course I would have to tell the embarrassing part. So I was in Australia with one of my bros. He was trying to teach me how to surf. Well, a big wave came in and at first I was doing pretty good, but then I totally wiped out. As soon as a hit the water, I blacked out.
Zoe: OMG! OMG! That sounds so scary and dangerous!
Victor: (What, she text talks too!?!)
Guy: It would have been if I hadn’t already been close to the shore, so I washed up on the beach.

Kira: I was in Australia studying the clown-fish in the Great Barrier Reef, but I was taking a break on the beach when I saw a surfer wipe out. I’ve seen enough surfers to know that this guy already had no idea what he was doing. So when he washed up on the beach I went to see if he was alright. And now a year later here we are getting married!
Victor: Wait, you two dated for an entire year and didn’t bother telling your family until you were engaged!!!
Kira: Well, we didn’t actually start dating until 6 months ago, but we kept in touch after we met.
Victor:
Still don’t you think it would be nice to give people some kind a heads up!! Like
“Hey, I met this really great women and gee I think she may be the one” instead of “Hey Vick I’m engaged come meet my fiance this weekend”!!
Awkward silence ensues.
Ellen (to change the subject and fill the silence): So Zoe, I understand you have a boyfriend. How did you two meet?
Zoe: Oh well we met at a party! OMG he was the hottest guy I’ve ever seen! Well, IRL anyway. I mean, there are tons of hot celebrities but I guess they don’t really count since you never see them hanging out. Unless you live in California. Anyway, at first I didn’t think he liked me because he just kept staring out me from across the room! All I could think was “Eww maybe I have something on my face and this hot guy is staring at me and getting grossed out!” But then he came over and started talking to me, and then he asked me out, and OMG I could have exploded!!!
Victor: (I feel like exploding. Or maybe this girl will explode and the world will be a slightly less annoying place.)
Ellen and Kira: Awww!!
Zoe: So how did you and Victor meet?
Ellen: We met in our senior year of college. I knew Vick liked me all along, but it took this jerk an entire semester to actually ask me out.
Victor: If you knew I liked you, then why didn’t you make it easy on me and just ask me out.
Ellen: Because, the guy should always ask the girl out, never the other way around.
Zoe: OMG, I agree!
Kira: You girls are independent women of the 21st century and you’re still waiting on a man to make the first move!
Guy:
Well, this conversation isn’t getting awkward at all.
Victor: And this is why I refused to be in a room with more than one woman at a time.
Kira: Whatever. Guy, we still have a lot of planning to do for our big day. Why don’t you kids run along.
Zoe: Oh but Auntie, I want to help plan your wedding! I’ve never planned a wedding before! I bet it’s a ton of fun!
Kira: Uh..well Zoe, wedding planning is actually quite boring and you wouldn’t like it at all. Why don’t you spend some time Ellen and Victor so you all can get to know each other better. You will be family soon, after all.
Victor: Wait, what the h-!!
Ellen (cutting off the rest of Victor’s statement): I think that’s a great idea! We can go to my apartment and then I can drop off at your place.
Zoe: Oh ok then!Zoe, Ellen, and a fuming Victor leave Kira and Guy alone.
Kira: Well, that wasn’t too bad. At least no one was throttled or stabbed, although I Vick, I mean Victor might try something a few times.
Guy: Yeah, sorry about that. I should have warned you that Vick is a little emotional. He’s always been sensitive and a little socially awkward, so he never had many friends. I’ve always been there for him, so I think he feels that he’s losing me.
Kira: Well, it’s a good thing he has Ellen. She’s a very perceptive young women.
Guy: Yeah, I was surprised he managed to get a girlfriend, or that he even like girls for that matter.
Kira: Guy!
Guy: What!? He’s always been overly sensitive. I don’t want to say my brother’s a wimp but…
Kira: Really Guy!
Guy: Oh well, at least we are finally alone! Oh, but first I have the rest of those forms for us to sign. Hmmm… Maybe we should wait until after the wedding, or at least tell people what we’re planning?
Kira: Maybe, but I think at this point it will be too much for every to take in. We should go ahead with our plan and tell everyone once things are confirmed.
Guy: Well, alright then.
