6 Degrees S01E03: Separation Anxiety

Zoe meets up with her boyfriend Takeo at Boa Boa Cafe, the best place for specialty caffeinated beverages, boba-milk tea, and decorative pastries and sweets.

Zoe: This is where my aunt got those scones we had Saturday. You should try one! They are the best thing ever!
Takeo: The best thing ever, huh? Well, in that case I’ll try one.

When the waitress comes, they make their orders.

Waitress: What can I get you today? (Wow, this guy is one fine Asian!!)
Zoe: I’ll have a blueberry scone, a strawberry cupcake and a coffee with cream and extra sugar.
Takeo: I’ll have a blueberry scone too and a black coffee.
Waitress: Sure! (I wonder if he like his women like he likes his coffee?)

The waitress leaves with their orders.

Zoe: Wow, you’d think after that lecture my aunt’s boyfriend gave me about how caffeine leads to free-radicals I would stop drinking coffee!
Takeo: Well, you did just order a ton of sugar too. How did the meeting go anyway?

Zoe: Ok, I guess. Guy, her boyfriend, is really nice, and auntie seems to like him a lot! His brother's a little whiny and emotional though, but his girlfriend Ellen is nice. Actually, we’re going shopping this afternoon! We even have a lot in common! We both like Sakura Dreams and cats and Hello Kitty and Hime and Lolita and…
Takeo: (realizing this list go could go on for a while, interrupts Zoe) So, it sound like you made a new friend. (Good, this will make things easier for her with all the changes going on.)

Zoe: Yeah, I guess so. But I found out that auntie is planning on moving to California after she gets married! She didn’t even tell me! I had to find out from Ellen! And she’s the only family I have in this county! *sniff, sniff* She’s leaving me all alone!!! *Zoe breaks out in a full cry* It’s all still too upsetting. I’ll be right back!Zoe leaves to go to the restroom. Right after Zoe leaves, their food is brought out. The waitress winks at Takeo, but he is too distracted to notice.

Takeo: Great, now I can’t tell her with her in this state! She’ll need to calm down first.

Takeo takes out his phone and makes a call, but gets no answer. He then calls a different number.Takeo: Hello? Is Konstantin there? No, I need to talk to him. What do you mean he’s away? Where? Argh, seriously!?! Listen, I need more time. I can’t let you know anything today. Because, it’s just not a good time. I know, I know, but just give me another month. What!? But what’s another month? Alright, alright two weeks then. Look I have to go.

Takeo ends the call just as Zoe walks up to the table.
Zoe: Who was that? Your woman on the side? *giggles*
Takeo:
He he, yeah, you know I’m such a player.
Zoe: What’s wrong, you look worried? Takeo, that better not have been another girl!
Takeo: No, no, really! It was the repair shop. My guitar won’t be fixed until next week.
Zoe: Oh, sorry Takeo. I know how you love playing your guitar.
Takeo: Um, yeah. (I can’t believe I just lied to Zoe).

Zoe: I feel so much better now! I’m still upset about auntie moving to the other side of the country, but at least I still have you! And I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t here!
Takeo: Yeah, he he. (Great, this is getting worse, but I can’t back out now. I already promised the guys I would do it).
Zoe: Aren’t these scones the best?!

As they finish their lunch, Zoe chatters away happily while Takeo, deep in thought, pretends to listen.

  1. Poor Zoe. Everyone is leaving her. Looks like she'll need to find something to do to comfort herself.
