6 Degrees Ep 05: The Truth Shall Set You Free

It had been a rough few weeks for Takeo, who had made a lot of major life changes, unbeknownst to Zoe due to her “delicate” emotional state. Takeo knew he had to talk to Zoe sooner rather than latter, but he needed advice on how to do it. Takeo decided to take a trip to an industrial style loft downtown. When he arrived, he saw the person he was looking for.

Takeo: Hey Konstantin. Oh I mean privet. Zach’s not around is he?
Konstantin: Net, but you should really say “Zdravstvuyte” since we’re meeting for the first time today.
Takeo: Well, “privet” is easier to say, so I’ll stick with that. I was hoping Zach wouldn’t be around. I need advice and I don’t think I could take his sarcasm.
Konstantin: Da, he is very sarcastic...and weird. He keeps calling me pretty. Very strange.
Takeo: Yeah, well, I need advice about my girlfriend, and you seem like you’re good with women.
Konstantin: Me? Ha ha, I seem to be good with women! Why do you think I’m good with women.
Takeo: Well, Auden goes through a string of women every few days, and Zach is...well creepy, so I guess that leaves you.
Konstantin: Well, I will do the best I can.

Takoe: Thanks! Well, I’m trying to figure out how to tell Zoe I quit my job and joined  the band. It’s a little complicated with her now because her aunt is getting married and moving to California, and Zoe and her aunt are very close. I feel like, if I tell her I’m joining a band and will have to be away practicing and traveling, then she’ll feel completely abandoned. But I know the longer I wait, the worse it will be when she does find out.
Konstantin: So, then, just tell her. Tell her everything at once.
Takeo: Well, now I see why you’re single. You obviously don’t know women.
Konstantin: I may be single, but I know people. And people in general tend to not like having information withheld from them, especially from those they are close to.

Takeo: Yeah, I guess you’re right. Well, I’d better go talk to Zoe. Thanks!
Konstantin: Do svidonia, Takoe.
Takeo: Um, dos...um, sayoonara!

Later that day, Takeo invites Zoe to go to their favorite spot in the park.

Zoe: I wasn’t expecting you to take me out today! What a surprise!
Takeo: I was hoping you would like it. Hey, let’s sit over here. Um, Zoe, there’s something I need to tell you.
Zoe: Oh, ok Takeo. OMG, you aren’t dying of some kind of crazy cancer are you?!?!

Takeo: No, no. It’s not that serious.
Zoe: Oh, so there is a cure for it?
Takeo: What? No. I mean it’s not cancer. I’m not sick at all. I just need to talk to you about something.
Zoe: OMG, you’re not breaking up with me are you?! I don’t think I can take a break up now!!
Takeo: No, Zoe. Just listen. You know how I really like playing the guitar? And how I’ve been thinking of turning it into something that’s more than just a hobby? [Takes a deep breath] Well, last month I quit my job and joined a band.

Zoe: You what! You mean like a band that plays music?! You quit your job as an analyst to play music?! What kind of job security is that?!
Takeo: Zoe, I’m following my dream. You want to be a famous fashion critic, so you got a job at Style Lux magazine. I want to be a guitarist, so I joined a band. It’s the same thing. We’re both following our dreams.

Zoe: It’s absolutely not the same thing, Takeo! I have a legitimate job and clear career goals for the future. There is nothing legitimate about being in a band!
Takeo: What! What about The Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith, and Yellowcard? They're successful. They’ve won tons of awards!
Zoe: Yeah, but that’s them. Really, Takeo, what are the chance of your little band becoming famous?
Takeo: Same as the chances of you moving through the ranks from junior writer who covers minor stories to a famous fashion critic!

Zoe: OMG!!!! I can’t believe you! So, you never believed in me at all, did you?! Why does everyone do this to me!?! Why do people keep humoring me, and hiding things from me, and…
Takeo: No Zoe, I didn’t mean it like that. I was just saying that…
Zoe: I don’t want to talk about this anymore. I have to go! [Zoe storms off leaving Takeo alone.]
Takeo: I really shouldn’t have said what I said. I’ve never seen Zoe this upset.

At that moment Takeo gets a text message.

Text Message: hey sexy! practicing the new songs tonight. would be nice if we had our bassist around to you know play bass. crazy idea i know.
Takeo: Ugh, even his text messages are sarcastic. Oh well, at least it will take my mind off of the fight I had with Zoe.
Takeo heads off to gather his gear for tonight’s practice session.

    1. Thanks! I hope so too; nothing is worse than looking back and regretting not taking that big chance at doing what you really love.

  3. I'm sorry, but Zoe had a selfish and inconsiderate reaction. I could see if Takeo had a family and major bills, but he's young enough to try following his dream. She made hers seems more important. If she wants to keep this man, she needs to think about what she is saying.

This was really a good episode.

    1. I'm glad you liked it! Honestly, I think Zoe would be more supportive of Takeo if all that other emotional strain wasn't going on with her aunt. Maybe once things settle down a bit with her aunt's wedding and all, Zoe will come to her senses (hopefully!).
